Don Quixote: As Artist, Lithograph and Relief, 51.5 x 73 cm
At first you are captured by the sheer presence of the prints because of their
size and intense use of colour. Initially I found this intimidating until I
tuned into the rhythm the artist had established within the structure of the
series. The dominant motif resonates with a number of images which are repeated
throughout the prints in the exhibition. Once I had overcome being awestruck, I
saw that the artist was actually very clear in guiding us. Her titling is very
straightforward, and the manner in which the work is hung is also very
purposeful. The main theme is introduced with a context surrounded by four other
perspectives. The viewer must take the time to peel back the levels so carefully
laid down by the artist. There are many connections to be made here as the
symbols appear again and again but in the guise of different colours or
positioning.
